Policy and Governance Officer
Level 6 Salary $100,000-$107,000 + superannuation | Full-time, ongoing
A policy is only valuable if people understand it, use it and trust the thinking behind it.
Litchfield Council is looking for a Policy and Governance Officer who can turn complex requirements into practical systems, ask the questions others may overlook and help Council manage risk with confidence.
This is not a role spent simply updating documents. You will work across Council, bringing people together, testing how things operate in practice and ensuring policies, risk controls, records and governance processes genuinely support better decision-making.
Why join Litchfield Council?
- Six weeks' annual leave
- Salary packaging options
- Additional employer superannuation contributions when matched by you
- Ongoing professional development opportunities
- Meaningful work supporting a growing and diverse municipality
- The opportunity to influence policy and governance across the organisation
The opportunity
Reporting to the Director Governance and Community, you will coordinate Council's approach to policy, risk, audit and records management.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Developing and reviewing policies, procedures, legal manuals and templates
- Managing Council's Risk Management Framework and Risk Register
- Supporting the Risk Management and Audit Committee
- Monitoring and progressing audit recommendations
- Tracking relevant legislative and NT Government policy developments
- Auditing document and records management practices
- Coordinating archiving and disposal requirements
- Administering Council's insurance portfolio and claims
- Helping teams understand and apply governance requirements
What you will bring
You know how to balance good governance with operational reality. You can interpret legislation, identify gaps and influence people at different levels without creating unnecessary complexity.
You will also bring:
- A relevant diploma, advanced diploma or equivalent experience
- Experience in policy development, implementation, review and audit
- Demonstrated risk management and compliance experience
- Knowledge of local government functions
- Strong written communication and report-writing skills
- The confidence to make recommendations and follow actions through
- A current NT driver's licence
If you enjoy bringing clarity to complexity and want your work to influence how an entire organisation operates, this is an opportunity to make a visible contribution at Litchfield Council.
